The Jeep Patriot provides impressive fuel economy as efficient as 7.8 L/100 km
(36 mpg) highway.

The federal government implemented a new 5-cycle test method to replace the 2-cycle method. It now takes into account air conditioner usage, cold temperature operation, and higher-speed driving with more rapid braking and acceleration for more realistic numbers.

While the 5-cycle fuel efficiency ratings are different than the 2-cycle ratings, actual fuel efficiency has not changed – the way it is calculated has.

6-SPEED AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION

Take off quickly with the low first gear in the 6-speed automatic transmission. Enjoy more relaxed highway cruising with the tall top gear.

A stepped shift schedule across all 6 gears is designed for optimal city fuel economy. Experience reduced maintenance costs and environmental impact with the innovative, fit-for-life design. Standard on North Edition and High Altitude 4×4, available on Sport.

FREEDOM FRIVE I 4X4 SYSTEM

Freedom Drive I® 4×4 system is standard on the Patriot 4×4 models and offers the capability to handle almost any road condition. Its electromagnetically controlled coupling is attached to the rear differential to constantly monitor wheel slippage. If it occurs, it transfers power to the wheels with the most grip.

When highway cruising in normal conditions, this on-demand system saves fuel by sending virtually no power to the rear axle, but automatically engages the rear wheels as needed. It also features a 4WD LOCK setting for added low-speed power for things like pulling a boat out of the water.

FREEDOM DRIVE II OFF-ROAD GROUP

The available Freedom Drive II® 4×4 system is designed for those who want to go off the beaten path. The CVT2 transmission and a 19:1 crawl ratio offer added capability to conquer more extreme obstacles like water fording2, deep snow, steep hills and rocks.

Always get the most available traction with this system that uses an electronic control module to determine how much torque to transfer to the Patriot’s rear wheels.

AIRBAGS

Advanced Multistage Air Bags – The severity of an impact determines the appropriate inflation force. Occupant safety is enhanced by moderating air bag inflation, based on weight, in the event of an impact.

Front-Seat-Mounted Side Air Bags – Additional head and thorax protection during a side impact is provided with standard front-seat-mounted side air bags.

Side-Curtain Air Bags – Inflatable chambers are situated next to the front and rear outboard occupants’ heads. In the event of a collision, curtains deploy downward to cover both windows on the impact side.

ANTILOCK BRAKES (ABS)

The latest technology built into the Patriot's antilock brakes (ABS) ensures continual wheel position monitoring. Wheel lockup in emergency braking situations is prevented for greater driver control. Front disc/rear drum brakes with ABS are standard on FWD models, while 4x4 models feature 4-wheel disc brakes with ABS. On 4x4 models, an additional off-road ABS feature helps improve stopping performance on loose surfaces.

STANDARD ELECTRONIC ROLL MITIGATION

Steering wheel input and vehicle speed are monitored by this system to sense the potential for wheel lift. It enhances Electronic Stability Control (ESC) to help reduce the likelihood of a vehicle side rollover.

The system sends braking power to the appropriate wheels and reduces engine power when overly sharp steering or impending wheel lift is detected.
