Freedom Drive I® 4x4 system is standard on the Patriot 4x4 models and offers the capability to handle almost any road condition. Its electromagnetically controlled coupling is attached to the rear differential to constantly monitor wheel slippage. If it occurs, it transfers power to the wheels with the most grip.
When highway cruising in normal conditions, this on-demand system saves fuel by sending virtually no power to the rear axle, but automatically engages the rear wheels as needed. It also features a 4WD LOCK setting for added low-speed power for things like pulling a boat out of the water.
